OCVarsity preview for the 2015 season:
COSTA MESA MUSTANGS
Coach: Glen Fisher
Last season: 2-8 overall, 2-3 in league
Scouting report: Change has arrived again for the Mustangs. They have a new coach, Glen Fisher, who replaces Wally Grant. Fisher believes this group will be athletic, in good shape, fast and physical. Two-way stars Cameron Curet and Mason Mataafa will be key to any success this season. Senior inside linebacker Sam Swanson is another important cog to the defensive unit. Fisher said he had some players leave the program, but the group that begins the season is one that is committed to each other.
Bottom line: The Mustangs might have the two best athletes in the league, Curet and Mataafa, but they’ll need others to help get the team into the playoffs.
Players to watch: Jonathan Brucales, RB, Sr.; Cameron Curet, WR/OLB, Sr.; Mason Mataafa, TE/ILB, Sr.; Cody Merrifield, RB/SS, Jr.; Sam Swanson, ILB, Sr.
