Laguna Beach junior Makenzie Fischer, Santa Margarita senior Haley Wan and Segerstrom senior Melissa Osorio have been selected CIF players of the year in their respective divisions in girls water polo, the Southern Section announced.
Fischer, a U.S. national team player, was voted Division 1 player of the year after leading the top-ranked Breakers (30-1) to their first Division 1 title.
Laguna Beach’s other first-team All-CIF selections were Fischer’s sister, Aria, Cara Borkovec and Bella Baldridge.
The Princeton-bound Wan was named Division 2 player of the year for the second consecutive season after leading the Eagles (24-6) to a second consecutive section title.
Osorio was the only goalie selected CIF player of the year. She earned the honor in Division 7 after helping the Jaguars (23-9) capture the title in just their third varsity season.
Laguna Beach’s Ethan Damato (Division 1), Santa Margarita’s Brian Weathersby (Division 2) and Segerstrom’s Tim Fredericksen (Division 7) were picked as CIF coaches of the year.
