SANTA ANA – In a game between teams seeking their first win of the season, Northwood found victory doing the one thing host Santa Ana Valley virtually could not: pass.

While Northwood proved it has two capable quarterbacks in Friday’s 24-9 nonleague victory, Santa Ana Valley’s first- and second-string quarterbacks struggled before leaving with injuries.

Northwood quarterback Cameron Kasey passed for 103 yards and two touchdowns and teammate Trevor Lawrence threw for 82 yards and a score. The Falcons (0-3-1), meanwhile, didn’t complete a pass until the final six minutes.

The night didn’t begin that auspiciously for the Timberwolves (1-3). Lawrence, who started, completed just two of his first nine passes and threw an interception that halted a drive in the red zone.

But on Kasey’s first possession under center, he delivered a 14-yard touchdown to Michael Bellas. Just before halftime, he connected with Garrett O’Connor for another score to help give Northwood a 14-0 lead.

Lawrence found success on the first drive of the second half, capping a 10-play, 56-yard march with an 11-yard TD pass to Bellas.

The Falcons had a TD and safety on consecutive plays in the fourth quarter, but it was too little too late.
