SANTA ANA – Neil Boudreau completed 6 of 10 passes for 77 yards with three touchdowns and Matt Abellaneda had six carries for 99 yards and a touchdown as University defeated Segerstrom, 36-6, in a nonleague game at Segerstrom on Friday night.

The Trojans scored their first two touchdowns off turnovers.

Darius Outland blocked Hector Blanco’s punt, which Billal Mohabi recovered at the Jaguars 6, to set up the Trojans’ first score. Four plays later, Boudreau hit Mohabi on a 3-yard pass with 6:52 to play in the first. Boudreau’s pass to Awni Albalas put University up, 8-0.

Hamza Diab’s recovery of a Gus Guerrero fumble led to a 45-yard run from Abellanneda on the ensuing play to give University (1-0) a 15-0 lead with 3:17 left in the first quarter.

Mohabi, Andre Campbell and Alex Pourdanesh each had touchdown receptions for the Trojans.

Segerstrom avoided the shutout with 4:20 left in the game on Guerrero’s 37-yard pass to J.C. Caravez to cap a nine-play, 88-yard drive, the longest of the game.

Guerrero went 4-for-7 passing for 85 yards with two interceptions while Caravez totaled 26 yards on three carries. Gabriel Lopez led the Jaguars’ running game with 40 yards on 10 carries and George Ortega had two catches for 42 yards for Segerstrom.

Jalen Robetson had two interceptions for University, one in the final minute of the first quarter and the other near the end of the third quarter.

The Trojans have defeated the Jaguars in back-to-back seasons for the first time in school history in a rivalry dating to 2010.
