Brethren Christian won its first playoff game since 1997, knocking off Desert of Edwards Air Force Base, 35-24, on Friday night in the first round of the CIF-SS East Valley Division playoffs Friday night.

Running back Jordan Leonard rushed for 139 yards and two touchdowns for the Warriors (7-2-1), who went ahead, 21-0, in the first half.

“We’re a passing team,” Coach Pat McInally said. “But with the 35 mile per hour winds, we had to run so much.”

Conner Miller rushed for 154 cards on 17 carries and intecepted two passes on defense. He finished 8-of-16 passing for 155 yards. “He had a big game all-around,” McInally said. Miller had a 57-yard TD pass to Nathan Sagastume, giving Miller 43 TD passes this season.

The Warriors will face Grace Brethren of Simi Valley in the second round.
