GARDEN GROVE – With its offense rejuvenated by the return of quarterback Luis Casas, Los Amigos scored on its first four possessions on the way to a 54-16 victory over La Quinta in a Garden Grove League game at Bolsa Grande High on Thursday night.

Senior running back Moby Contreras rushed for 199 yards and four touchdowns, while Casas added two scoring runs and a 75-yard strike to Rayshawn Johnson.

The Aztecs went three-and-out on their first two possessions while Contreras scored on runs of 35 and 68 yards. After a fumble by La Quinta, Casas scored on a 21-yard keeper, making it 21-0 with 7:27 to go in the first quarter.

“This is the first time we’ve really done that this year, really came out firing on all cylinders in the first quarter,” said Los Amigos coach Carl Agnew. “We still had a lull in the second quarter. That’s something we’ll have to fix if we want to beat Rancho (Alamitos) and (Garden) Grove in the next two weeks. But it’s stuff to build on.”

La Quinta was finally able to get on the board with a 27-yard field goal from Stephen Jafke with 2:10 to go in the second quarter, making it 28-3.

Los Amigos (4-3, 2-0) took little time getting on the board again in the third, with its first play from scrimmage a 65-yard touchdown run by Casas, who missed about a month with a high ankle sprain.

“We’re glad to have him back,” Agnew said. “We could have brought him back a week early, but we decided not to. We wanted to make sure we had him healthy for this run in the league and, hopefully, the playoffs.”

Agnew also lauded Contreras’ work.

“Another great game for us,” he said. “So far he has rushed for 100 or 200 yards against just about everybody. We’re pretty proud with what he give us.”

La Quinta’s Vinny Tran ran for 137 yards and scored two second-half touchdowns for the Aztecs (1-6, 0-2) while quarterback Joseph Lopez threw for 116 yards.

La Quinta travels to Garden Grove on Thursday and Los Amigos plays Rancho Alamitos at Bolsa Grande on Oct. 24.
