ANAHEIM – Fernando Garcia passed for 255 yards and three touchdowns as Magnolia defeated Loara 30-15 in a nonleague game Friday night at Glover Stadium.

Throwing the ball deep and often from the outset, Garcia piled up the passing yards, completing 10 of 22 attempts and leading the Sentinels (2-1) to a comfortable victory.

“He is coming on strong. He was really tentative the first game and got better last week, and he throws a great deep ball,” Magnolia coach Ryan Olson said of his first-year starting quarterback.

Six of Garcia’s 10 completions went to senior wide receiver Mekhi Pelzer, covering 155 yards, including two touchdowns.

Every yard seemed to be a challenge for Loara (0-3). Quarterback Boogie Augistine was 5 of 13 for 58 yards.

Magnolia took advantage of a mismatch between its tall, speedy receivers and Loara’s shorter secondary.

Magnolia’s first two passes of the night produced touchdowns, the first covering 38 yards and the second 56. Garcia added a 40-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter.

Loara cut the lead to 13-6 late in the first quarter, scoring its first touchdown on a 1-yard run by senior running back Josh Moran.

With four minutes left in the game, Loara’s defense pushed Magnolia into its own end zone for a safety. After receiving the ball on the ensuing kickoff, Loara quickly drove down the field and added a 5-yard Frankie Nocella touchdown run that cut the lead to 30-15.
