LA MIRADA – Second-half touchdown runs by Edgar Astorga and Evert Roca erased a three-point halftime deficit and led Santa Ana Valley to a 13-3 victory over John Glenn in a nonleague game Friday night at La Mirada High.

The Falcons’ offense in the second half was a stark contrast to what happened in the first two quarters, as John Glenn (1-2) held Santa Ana Valley (2-1) to just eight yards and one first down.

The Eagles, who ended a 17-game losing streak over the course of three seasons last week against Pioneer, appeared to be in control of every segment of the game throughout the first half, but a 22-yard field goal by Brian Aguiano was all they had to show for it.

The Falcons took control of the game on their first possession of the second half. Astorga capped a seven-play drive by racing past the Eagle’s secondary and scoring on a 66-yard run.

The Falcons’ defense, which allowed 117 yards in the first half, also began to do to the Eagles what had been done to them earlier, allowing just one first down. Roca repaid his defensive mates by adding a 21-yard touchdown run midway through the final quarter.

The Eagles were held to just nine yards in the second half.

Roca finished with 84 yards on 18 carries as the Falcons tallied 207 yards total offense.
