Outlook: Corona del Mar relied on a team effort to defeat St. Margaret’s, 11-9, in the Orange County final Wednesday. Will Favreau and Jordan Greenhall scored four goals apiece. Goalie Nick Guizan shut out St. Margaret’s in the fourth quarter. Another key ingredient for the Sea Kings was the performance of midfielder Ryan Meckler, who was the game’s MVP. He didn’t score, but he was vital to the team’s defense, recording three ground balls and forced a turnover. Stephen Von der Ahe had two goals, one assist and four ground balls. Jason Simaan was just 10 of 23 on faceoffs, but he is likely to improve on those numbers against Loyola. CdM defeated Yorba Linda, Tesoro and Santa Margarita to advance to the Orange County final. Loyola defeated defending Los Angeles-area champion Palos Verdes, 7-6, in overtime in the L.A. final. Senior Sean Smith scored four goals Wednesday, including the winner in OT. This is the first Southern Section final for Loyola since 2009. Loyola lost to Foothill in that final.
