Brooke Graebe and Brittany Farrell both posted rounds in the 70s on Wednesday at the CIF State Girls Golf Championship, but neither could keep up with Andrea Lee of Mira Costa of Manhattan Beach, who won the individual title with a 4-under-par 67 at Quail Lodge Golf Course in Carmel.

Graebe, a junior at Yorba Linda, made a nine-stroke improvement over her performance at last year’s state championship, shooting a 3-over 74 to tie for eighth. She had four birdies.

Farrell, a senior at Mission Viejo, finished with her highest score of the postseason, a 6-over 77, which put the recently crowned CIF-SS champion in a tie for 22nd.

When Farrell teed off at 7:30 a.m., most of the course was shrouded in a dense fog, and that, she said, made it nearly impossible to see. She was 5 over on her first nine holes.

“My irons weren’t really getting to where I wanted them to go,” said Farrell, the first Mission Viejo girl to play for a state championship. “I couldn’t putt, either. I must’ve had five 3-putts. My short game was kind of bad today.”

Torrey Pines cruised to a 32-shot victory in the team competition, posting a 364. Diamond Bar and Walnut both had 396, but the Brahmas finished second on the sixth player’s score.
