Miyuki Pugrad (Kennedy) won all three of her matches by fall, Friday at the first day of the CIF-SS Individual Championships at Eleanor Roosevelt HS of Eastvale.

Pugrad (131 pounds) is one of nine O.C. wrestlers that advanced to the semifinals and secured a spot in the CIF State Tournament, Feb. 27-28.

Also at 131 pounds are Esperanza’s Victoria Aguilar. Aguilar, who will face Pugrad in the semifinals, won two matches by fall and another by decision.

Top-seeded Josahandy Moreno (Santa Ana) won two matched by fall and one by decision.

Three-time state champion Gabby Garcia (Valencia) is one, having won two matches by fall and one by forfeit at 126 pounds.

Canyon’s Aleeah Gould (106) had two matches, winning one by technical fall and the other by fall.

Savanna has two state qualifiers, with Normanee Brown (106) and Erica Quiroz (121). Brown had a victory by technical fall, decision and fall. Quiroz won both of her matches by decision.

Maria Alvarez (Aliso Niguel) has qualified for her second state tournament. Alvarez, 111, won all three matches by decision.

Godinez’s Samantha Salas (150) had two victories by fall and one by decision.

Wrestling resumes Saturday at 10 a.m. The championship semifinals are set for 11 a.m. The medal matches are slated to begin at 2 p.m.
