The county’s premier cross country invitational will be expanding next season, as the Orange County Cross Country Championships will now be a two-day meet.

The dates for the 2013 meet are Friday and Saturday, October 18th-19th at Irvine Regional Park in Orange.

Foothill cross country coach and meet director Matt Bell confirmed the move and the dates, citing the growing popularity of the meet along with other events being held simultaneously at the park creating the need to spread the invitational out from its traditional one-day format.

According to Bell, the exact time schedule for the two-day invitational is still being worked out.  However, the plan being discussed is that schools with less than 2,000 students enrolled will race Friday afternoon. Large schools above 2,000 students will race on Saturday morning, beginning at 7:45 a.m.

Bell also confirmed there will be a small schools team champion and a small schools all-county team awarded on Friday, with the traditional sweepstakes team championship and all-county team awards reserved for the large schools on Saturday.
