Edison’s annual 7-on-7 passing tournament, which it calls the “Battle at the Beach,” is shaping up as one of the best high school football competitions of the summer.

Topping the list of teams entered in the July 12 event is defending state Open Division champion St. John Bosco, which is led by quarterback Josh Rosen, a UCLA commit.

The Orange County teams participating in the 20-team field are Edison, JSerra, La Habra, Los Alamitos, Mater Dei and Santa Margarita.

The first games start at 9 a.m. and the championship game will be at 1 p.m.

JOHNSTON COMMITS TO USC

Servite offensive lineman Clayton Johnston announced this week that he has committed to USC.

The 6-foot-6, 280-pound Johnston, who is going into his senior year, is rated as a three-star prospect by Rivals, Scout and ESPN.

“He’s going to do some great things out there at (USC) as long as he keeps progressing the way he’s doing right now,” Friars coach A.J. Gass said.

LEE SELECTED FOR WYNDHAM CUP

Brea Olinda’s Amy Lee, the fifth-ranked player in the AJGA points standings, was selected to the West Team that will compete in the Wyndham Cup next week in Plymouth, Mass.

The event, in its 25th year, brings together the top 10 juniors from the East and the West to compete in the team match-play event. This will be Lee’s third appearance in the Wyndham Cup. She has a 6-1-1 career record in the event.

This week, Lee played in the inaugural Yani Tseng Invitational, and she finished tied for 14th with a 3-over-par 219 in Rancho Sante Fe. …

Foothill’s Madie Chou led all three rounds of the Killington Junior Golf Championship in Killington, Vt., to win her second AJGA tournament. She led all three round of the 54-hole at Green Mountain National Golf Course, opening with a 3-under-par 68 and closing with a 67 to post a nine stroke victory.
