Esperanza offense dominates in win over Marina
PLACENTIA - Two teams whose offenses hit the skids the past couple of weeks faced each other Thursday at Valencia High, and Esperanza more than made up for its frustration with a 52-27 victory over Marina in a Sunset League contest.
Drew Huusfeldt led the way as Esperanza sent Marina (1-7, 0-3) to its 24th consecutive league loss.
Huusfeldt had touchdown runs of 11 and 58 yards and a TD pass of 50. He finished with five carries for 73 yards and two completions for 71, all before halftime as Esperanza built a 38-6 lead.
Esperanza (4-4, 1-2) punted on its first possession but scored on its next six, including a 27-yard field goal by busy PAT man Tyler Drees.
Dustin Derieg led Esperanza with six carries for 162 yards, including a 36-yard score.
Esperanza hadn’t scored as many as three touchdowns in either of its past two games. Marina was outscored, 108-7, in its two previous games.
Marina got on the scoreboard right before halftime.
Bradye Hill caught the first of three TD receptions of 35, 21 and 23 yards. He caught five passes for 96 yards.
