PLACENTIA — The good news for the El Dorado Golden Hawks is that the nonleague portion of their schedule is over.

However, after Thursday’s night’s 24-14 loss to visiting Glendora at Valencia High, the Golden Hawks will enter their Century League opener next week against Canyon with a 1-4 record and on a four-game losing streak.

“It is rough right now,” El Dorado coach Jeff Bailey said. “We have to figure out a way to play in the second half.

“We have been competitive in the first half and then for some reason, we lay an egg in the second half.”

El Dorado led, 14-3, at halftime, but Glendora wasted little time attacking in the third quarter.

Glendora (3-2) ran only five plays in the quarter, but two went for touchdowns. First, the Tartans’ Duwani Bankhead scored on a 77-yard run on their second play of the half. Later, quarterback Drew Kaluzny scored on a 47-yard run and, after a successful 2-point conversion, the Tartans led, 17-14.

Sophomore Andreas Ambuehl started at quarterback for the Golden Hawks, who are three-time defending league champs.

Ambuehl completed  8 of 15 passes for 71 yards and one touchdown.

Senior quarterback Kane Wilson sat out the game because of a bruised right shoulder, suffered last week.
Bailey said that Wilson should be able to play next week.
