Veteran Edison swim coach Diggy Riley will resign at the end of the season, he said Thursday.

Riley, 53, said he is excited for the season’s stretch drive of the Sunset League finals and CIF but is looking forward to a break and traveling.

He resigned as the Edison boys and girls water polo coach in March.

Riley said his perspective on coaching and life changed with the passing of his wife, Sally, last spring from cancer. He said his wife encouraged him to continue coaching during her illness.

“It’s time to relax (now),” he said.

Riley is a two-time Register swim coach of the year. He also played water polo and swam at Edison for his father, Lou.

Riley said he will continue to coach the 12-and-under girls water polo team at the Newport Beach club.

More info to come.
