Veteran Edison football coach Dave White will make the 2016 season his final leading the Chargers, he said Monday.

“I am coaching next year,” he said.

White said he also will retire in June of 2017 from teaching at Edison.

He said he then hopes to watch his son, Garrett, play football at Yale and is open to helping coach Edison on a part-time basis.

White said he has informed the Edison administration of his decision.

White led Edison to the Sunset League title this season and a trip to the West Valley Division playoffs. The Chargers fell to Rancho Cucamonga in the first round.

The 2015 season marked White’s 30th as Edison’s head coach. He also played at Edison and served as an assistant coach under Bill Workman.

White led the Chargers to the CIF Southwest Division title in 2012 and three CIF runner-up finishes (two Pac-5, one Division 1). Edison also has captured 13 Sunset League titles under White.
