Former Register swimmer of the year and small-school athlete of the year Ella Eastin of Crean Lutheran and the SOCAL club has committed to Stanford, the senior said Wednesday night.

“I am so excited and am looking forward to competing in college while getting a great education,” the All-County swimmer said in a text.

“I am relieved to have made my decision and I can’t wait to see where the other swimmers in my class decide to go. … Go Card!”

Eastin visited Cal but picked the Cardinal, where she will join former Crean Lutheran teammate Lindsey Engel. Eastin said she plans to visit Stanford in October.

The Cardinal’s class of 2015 includes Eastin and world-record holder Katie Ledecky. Bay Area rival Cal has landed a commitment from Katie McLaughlin of Santa Margarita and the Mission Viejo Nadadores.

Eastin helped lead Crean Lutheran to a second consecutive CIF Division 3 title in May. She then qualified during the summer for the Jr. Pan Pacific Championships in Hawaii, where she claimed gold in the 200- (2:13.12) and 400-meter individial medley (4:43.13). Eastin also served as one of the team captains for the United States.

As a sophomore, Eastin broke the national independent or private high school record in the 200-yard individiual medley with a 1:55.15, a record that still stands.
