OCVarsity preview for the 2015 season:
CAPISTRANO VALLEY CHRISTIAN EAGLES
Coach: Eric Preszler
Last season: 7-4 overall, 4-1 league
Scouting report: Capistrano Valley Christian is ahead of where it’s been in years past because of a senior-laden roster. Impact players such as seniors Ben Sukut and KCI Thompson started as freshmen when the Eagles transitioned from eight-man football and have grown with the program. Sukut, an Arkansas State commit, leads at the team’s position of strength – defensive secondary. Thompson has been explosive out of the backfield and will be joined by equally talented senior Daniel Herber. Dawson Piper has stepped in at quarterback and grasped the diverse CVC system. A large and physical offensive line has all of the tools, but it lacks game experience.
Bottom line: The Eagles have the defense and talent at the skill positions to win games, but the development of the offensive line will be needed for them to challenge for the league’s top spot.
Players to watch: Dylan Baird, WR/S, Sr.; Daniel Herber, WR/RB/LB, Sr.; Dawson Piper, QB, Jr.; Ryan Rapattoni, WR/S, Sr.; Ben Sukut, S/WR, Sr.; KCI Thompson, RB/DB, Sr.
