Softball: Pairings for all divisions

DIVISION 6

2014 champion: St. Bonaventure

Top-four seeded team: 1. Savanna (27-1); 2. Paraclete of Lancaster (22-3); 3. Webb of Claremont (14-2); 4. St. Anthony of Long Beach (13-8)

O.C. teams: Anaheim (13-12); Crean Lutheran (14-7); Katella (12-12); Oxford Academy (17-7); Saddleback Valley Christian (6-7); Savanna (27-1)

Analysis: The Rebels dropped from Division 5 in 2014 to Division 6 this season, and now find themselves atop the bracket as postseason favorites. Boasting two legitimate aces in Shyanne Fennell (14 wins) and Jezabelle Quintana (12 wins), coach Mike Willey has depth in the circle that no other program in the division likely has. Scoring runs hasn’t been an issue for Savanna either, as Kristin Worley paces a lineup that averaged over 11 a game. The question surrounding the Rebels is how they’ll respond in a close ball game? The Rebels cruised through Orange League play, its closest game being a 9-3 win over Katella. You can’t expect to blow everyone out in the playoffs, but you can count on being a dogfight or two.

“I’m very confident in the girls’ abilities,” Willey said. “We played 20 winter ball games, hosted two tourneys over the course of the year, and played teams that I thought were better than teams in our division. So we did everything we could getting to this point.”
