Wrestling: A recap of the weekend's action
Here is a look at the wrestling action from the weekend.
At the Santa Fe Scuffle
Calvary Chapel finished with 209 points to win the tournament. The Church Boyz had eight individual medalists.
Mike Longo (138) was the middleweight MVP, winning four matches by fall.
Peter Palacios (126), Adam Alvarado (132) and Aaron Negrette (145) were also individual champions for the Church Boyz.
At the El Dorado Invitational
Villa Park finished third with 139 points. The Spartans had eight medalists.
Valencia was fifth and El Dorado sixth. El Dorado’s Trent Morris was the Lower Weight MVP, winning three matches by fall, one by major decision and another by decision.
Paul Yoo (Cypress) placed first at 182 pounds.
La Habra’s Elder Cruz (195), El Dorado’s Dante Duke (220) and Villa Park’s David Trujillo (285) were all second at their weights.
Poway had 14 medalists and 333.5 points.
At the Carter Invitational
Laguna Hills finished third with 179.5 points. The Hawks had seven medalists.
Martin Garcia (106) and Wyond Mills (145) both finished second at their weights.
At the Cossareck Classic at Westminster HS
St. John Bosco had 10 medalists and scored 262 points to win the tournament. The Braves had five individual champions.
Servite was next with 169.5 points. The Friars had eight medalists. Fountain Valley, Santa Ana and Irvine all had seven medalists.
Greg Meline (Edison) was the upper weight MVP at 171 pounds. Prioleau had three victories by fall and one victory by decision.
At the Tom Bravo Invitational at Los Osos HS
Mission Viejo finished sixth in the team standings.
