Santa Ana

Analysis: Santa Ana capped the regular season with a perfect 10-0 record, grabbed its first league title since 1991, and now heads into the postseason as the division’s top overall seed. Maybe most exciting for the Saints is that in the last two weeks, star running back Jorge Briseno has found his old form and is running like he did prior to tearing his ACL last fall. Briseno is coming off 27- and 28-carry games, and you can guarantee he’s going to keep racking up the touches as Santa Ana moves forward. At the bottom of the bracket is second-seeded Rancho Christian of Temecula. The Eagles are led by former Orange Lutheran and Canyon coach Jim Kunau. Rancho has played a difficult schedule, which included a tight 34-30 loss to a nine-win Brethren Christian team. Kunau has championship pedigree and knows how to win at this stage of the season. But even with that, this Santa Ana team is playing with a ton of confidence. Add a fresh Briseno to the mix, and the Saints will be as tough an out as there is in the division.
