Girls basketball: Brea Olinda named No. 2 seed in Open Division
The CIF-SS released the official Open Division bracket on Saturday morning, naming Brea Olinda the division’s No. 2 overall seed behind only Long Beach Poly.
The Ladycats finished the regular season with a 23-2 record and take a 17-game winning streak into the postseason. Brea notched wins over five Open Division squads during the year, and will host Oaks Christian (19-6) in the first round.
Mater Dei (24-3) was awarded the division’s No. 6 seed and will welcome eleventh-seeded Etiwanda (17-8) in the opener.
No. 9 Troy (20-5) will travel to Mission Hills to take on No. 8 Alemany (20-8). The winner of that matchup will play the winner of No. 1 Long Beach Poly (22-3) and No. 16 Fairmont Prep (19-6).
Open Division play begins next Saturday with tip-offs scheduled for 7 p.m. Second round games are slated for Wednesday, Feb. 24 with semifinals being held Saturday, Feb. 27.
The division’s championship game will be played on Saturday, March 5. A time and location will be finalized following the semifinals. Last season’s finale was played at Azusa Pacific University.
