Mater Dei is the second seed in the Southern California regional bracket for the upcoming CIF State Girls Volleyball Tournament.

The Monarchs, who won their first CIF-SS title since 2003 with Saturday’s four-set victory over Redondo, will host Valencia of Valencia in the first round, Tuesday at 7 p.m.

The pairings were released Sunday afternoon.

Torrey Pines, the Open Division winner in the San Diego Section, is the overall top seed in the Southern California bracket.

The Monarchs’ last appearance in a state final came in 2004. Mater Dei advanced to the SoCal Regional finals last year.

Newport Harbor (2009) was the last county team to win the CIF State Division I title.

Trabuco Hills, the CIF-SS Division 1A champion, will open on the road at Cathedral Catholic of San Diego in Division I.

Saddleback Valley Christian was the only county team to advance to the CIF State finals last year, losing to Sacred Heart Cathedral of San Francisco in three sets. The Warriors, who are coming off their third consecutive section title, is the fifth-seed in the Southern California Bracket and will open on the road against Independence of Bakersfield in Division III.

Tarbut V’Torah, who advanced to its first section finals before losing to St. Monica Academy of Pasadena, will open on the road against Frazier Mountain of Lebec in the Division V bracket.
