After winning the CIF-Southern Section Division 1 championship on Saturday afternoon, Mater Dei’s girls soccer team was one of four county squads selected to compete in this week’s CIF Southern California Regional Championships.

In addition to the Monarchs, Cypress, Laguna Hills, Santa Margarita and Tarbut V’Torah also saw its seasons extended Sunday when CIF announced its regional pairings.

Despite falling to West Torrance this past weekend in the Southern Section Division 3 final, Cypress was placed in the regional tournament’s Division 1 bracket and will play at Torrey Pines on Tuesday at 4 p.m.

Mater Dei was named the No. 2 seed in Division 2 and will host Madera South on Tuesday. Fellow Trinity League school Santa Margarita is the No. 4 seed in Division 3 and will play Bishop Amat of La Puente. Laguna Hills, the Div. 1 runner-up, is the third-seeded team in Div. 3 and will host Liberty High of Madera.

Tarbut V’Torah rounds out the county selections in Division 5. The Lions will play Bright Star of Los Angeles at Sage Hill on Tuesday.

First-round play for all the eight-team brackets begin Tuesday with semifinals on Thursday.

Regional championship games will be held Saturday at 4 p.m.
