Breaking down Division 1AA of the CIF-SS girls basketball playoffs:
DIVISION 1AA
Top four seeds: Windward, Etiwanda, Long Beach Millikan, Valencia of Valencia
County representatives: Fountain Valley, San Clemente, Los Alamitos, Trabuco Hills
Rapid reaction: Even with the Open Division taking nine teams from Div. 1AA’s crop, what’s left in the bracket is still top-notch.
Los Alamitos and San Clemente have the best draws of the four county schools, as both will play at-large teams in the first round before potential meetings with lower seeded teams in the second round.
From the quarterfinals on, though, there’s no guarantees.
The Griffins look to be on a collision course with perennial power Etiwanda in the semis, while the Tritons could see Long Beach Millikan that same round. Both those teams could’ve potentially been chosen for the Open Division, but now they’re two top seeds in 1AA.
It could be a tough go for the county schools.
