Breaking down Division 3AA of the CIF-SS girls basketball playoffs:

DIVISION 3AA

Top four seeds: North Torrance, El Dorado, Antelope Valley, Sonora

County representatives: Rancho Alamitos, Laguna Hills, Esperanza, Orange, Corona del Mar, Sonora, Pacifica, Northwood, Yorba Linda, Magnolia, Yorba Linda, El Dorado.

Breakdown: Outside of the Open Division, 3AA could very well be the most entertaining to watch as we head toward March. In total, 12 county teams are represented in this division, including El Dorado and Sonora who earned the No. 2 and No. 4 overall seeds respectively.

The Golden Hawks advanced to the Div. 2A finals a season ago, but wound up on the losing end of a 65-52 game against West Torrance. Wayne Carlson’s team could very well see another Torrance-based school in the final down the road, as North High (22-2) is the No. 1 seed in 3AA. The Saxons only two losses of the season came against Mater Dei and city-section power Fairfax. A final against El Dorado could be a doozy.

Looking at the top half of the bracket, a Corona del Mar-Sonora matchup in the quarterfinals would make for one of the more intriguing matchups. The Sea Kings finished tied atop the Pacific Coast League standings, while the Raiders came in second in the Freeway League behind only Troy, who it played tough.
