Turnovers dog Brea Olinda
(Editor's note: This story has been corrected to reflect that Isaiah Thompson scored on a 55-yard interception return in the first quarter.)
BREA – Diamond Bar's no-huddle offense and speedy receivers kept Brea Olinda on its heels throughout most of their non-league game Friday at Brea Olinda High School.
The Wildcats made the Brahmas' job that much easier by turning over the ball six times.
Diamond Bar converted five of those into touchdowns en route to a 47-0 victory. The loss dropped the Wildcats to 1-3.
Brahmas quarterback Tyler Peterson found open receivers all night and wound up completing 23 of 31 passes for 241 yards and five touchdowns.
And even when receivers were well covered, they managed to make catches worthy of highlight reels.
Two such receptions were made by Diamond Bar junior Cordell Broadus – the son of rapper Snoop Dogg — who finished with seven catches for 72 yards and three touchdowns.
Broadus' second touchdown catch was on a pass that was intended for another receiver. The ball was tipped and Broadus managed to come down with it in the corner of the end zone.
His third touchdown catch was made in the corner of the end zone off a high arching pass from Peterson.
Isaiah Thompson's 55-yard interception return for a touchdown gave Diamond Bar (3-1) a 7-0 first-quarter lead.
The Wildcats fumbled away the ball on their own 30 on the opening series of the second quarter.
On the ensuing drive, Brown's 14-yard scoring run put Diamond Bar up, 14-0.
The score was the first of three touchdowns in the quarter for the Brahmas, who led, 33-0, at halftime.
Broadus' third touchdown catch in the third made it 40-0.
By CIF rule, the fourth quarter was played with a running clock because the Brahmas' lead was more than 35 points.
