Don’t overlook Fountain Valley’s girls swimming team.
The No. 10 Barons served notice to the Sunset League on Tuesday by defeating visiting No. 5 Edison, 104-66, in their opener.
Fountain Valley dominated behind double-winners Hannah Farrow and Shayla Erickson and impressive depth.
The Barons capped the victory by finishing first-second in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
“For them to 1-2 to us, that’s pretty big-time depth,” Edison coach Matt Whitmore said. “I can’t ever remember us getting 1-2’d.”
Fountain Valley’s A relay of Samantha Soriano, Katelyn Dang, Farrow and Carly Perri won the 400 in 3 minutes, 38.74 seconds.
The Barons’ B relay of Erickson, Kaitlyn Chu, Kennedy Hood and Bryn Kryger touched second in 3:42.61, more than 2 ½ seconds in front of Edison’s top relay (3:45.25).
Fountain Valley won all three relays.
Farrow helped spark the meet victory by defeating reigning CIF Division 1 200 individual champion Nora Deleske.
Farrow, a sophomore, rallied in the freestyle from about a half-a-second deficit to beat the Arizona State-bound Deleske with a time of 2:07.07. Deleske touched second in 2:08.24. She later won the breaststroke.
Farrow also won the butterfly in 57.30. Dang claimed second with a 58.87.
Erickson, a junior, swept the 200 (1:52.86) and 500 (5:01.91) freestyles.
