Attacker Luca Cupido (Newport Harbor) scored four goals Wednesday night to help the U.S. men’s water polo team close out group play at the FINA Intercontinental Tournament with a 19-8 victory against Argentina at Corona del Mar.
The Americans also got three goals apiece from Janson Wigo, Josh Samuels (Villa Park), Tony Azevedo and Bret Bonanni (Mater Dei). Samuels added five assists.
Team USA plays Kazakhstan on Thursday at 6:30 p.m in the quarterfinals and for a berth in the FINA World League Super Final in June in Italy. The winner of the Super Final qualifies for the 2016 Olympics.
