Brea Olinda’s Austin Tamagno finished sixth Saturday in the Foot Locker West Regionals, earning a spot in next weekend’s Foot Locker National Championships in San Diego.
The junior, following up his victory at the CIF State Championships a week earlier, finished the Mt. San Antonio College 5k course in a time of 15:44.
Tamago was the county’s only runner to advance to the nationals, which will be held at San Diego’s Balboa Park.
The county runners who finished among the top 50 were: Dana Hills’ Mason Coppi (16:13), Huntington Beach’s George Gleason (16:22), JSerra’s Andrew Burhardt (16:34) and Canyon’s Wes Walsh (16:38).
On the girls side, the top county finisher was iJSerra’s Ashley Geisler (19:20), who placed 25th. Edison’s Julia Sienski (19:50) also placed in the top 50.
At the Nike Cross Nationals in Portland Oregon:
Tesoro junior Amanda Gehrich finished 39th overall in the 5k race with a time of 18:29. She had the third fastest time among the runners from California.
On the boys side, Dana Hills junior Jake Ogden clocked a time of 16:19 and finished 73rd in the field of more than 200 runners.
Brea Olinda, which was competing without Tamagno, finished 20th overall. Sophomore Gio Orellana (16:22) and senior Austin Shellito (16:25) were the top two finishers for Brea.
