Whittier Christian quarterback Quinn Commans etched his name into the Orange County and CIF-SS record books on Friday night.

The junior broke a county record and tied a CIF-SS record with nine touchdown passes in a 68-55 nonleague victory over Bell at Whittier College.

Commans also ran for one touchdown.

He completed 27 of 39 throws for 490 yards, and he ran eight times for 46 yards as the Heralds improved their record to 3-1.

Commans’ nine touchdown passes tied a CIF-SS record set twice by Cathedral of Los Angeles’ Robert De La Cruz in 1998 and 1999. The performance also passed the county record of seven touchdown passes set by Burt Call of Capistrano Valley in 1987 against Laguna Hills.

The 6-foot-4, 250-pound Commans leads the county in passing yards (1,498) and is tied for second in passing touchdowns (20). Mater Dei’s JT Daniels has a county-leading 23 touchdown passes.

Commans is has completed 89 of 134 passes (66.4 percent) this season with only one interception. He is averaging 374.5 yards passing per game.

Commans spread the ball around Friday with touchdowns to four receivers. Cade McGee led the way in receiving yards with 211 on 10 catches and tied Nico Albertini with three touchdown receptions each. Albertini also pulled in six catches for 88 yards.

Noah Sanchez caught four passes for 106 yards with two touchdowns. Justin Osborn had one touchdown pass and had five receptions for 71 yards. He also ran for 166 yards on 17 carries.
