The Register’s All-Orange County girls basketball team for 2014-15.
GIRLS BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Katie Lou Samuelson
Mater Dei, Guard/Forward, Sr.
Samuelson was also the Register’s player of the year in 2012-13 and 2013-14.
GIRLS BASKETBALL COACH OF THE YEAR
Tom Howard, Orange Lutheran
FIRST TEAM
Jaylin Jones
El Dorado, Forward, Sr.
The bigger the moment, the better El Dorado’s captain played. Jones scored in double-digits in all 36 games this season, finishing as the county’s second-leading scorer (19.1 points per outing). She was selected to her third consecutive All-CIF team and is first-team All-County for the second year in a row. She signed with the University of San Francisco.
Reili Richardson
Brea Olinda, Guard, Jr.
The Ladycats star was the only underclassman chosen to the first team. Richardson averaged over 17 points a game while leading Brea Olinda to a second-place finish in the Division III state playoffs. She committed this month to Arizona State.
Brooke Salas
El Dorado, Guard, Sr.
Nobody filled up the stat sheets quite like Salas, a first-team All-County selection for the second consecutive year. The guard finished as the county’s third leading scorer (17.5 points per game) and averaged close to seven rebounds, four steals and nearly four assists. Salas is a three-time All-CIF selection. She will play at New Mexico State next season.
Andee Velasco
Mater Dei, Guard, Sr.
The talented point guard was a consistent and reliable player for the county’s top team. Velasco averaged close to 13 points a game. The four-year letter winner finished her Mater Dei career with an overall record of 122-12. She will continue her playing career alongside her sister, Bianca, next season at LMU.
