Seedings at stake at this weekend's tournament
Orange County's top Division 1 girls water polo teams will be playing for playoff seedings this weekend at the Irvine Southern California Championships.
The 32-team tournament, which runs today-Saturday in the county, is the final major tournament of the regular season.
"That's how the final (playoff) seeding end up — off (this) tournament — no matter what anybody says," Newport Harbor coach Bill Barnett said.
"If you don't do well, you're not going to get the seed."
The top four seeds of Corona del Mar (19-1), Newport Harbor (16-4), Los Alamitos (17-4) and Foothill (18-3) also are the top four teams in the county.
The final is Saturday at 3:15 p.m. at the William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center in Irvine.
Scoring record falls
Edison senior Alys Williams scored six goals in a 16-6 victory against Fountain Valley on Wednesday to break Danielle Warde's school record for career goals.
Williams has 327 goals, now five more than Warde, who graduated in 2010.
