OCVarsity’s breakdown and prediction for Division 4 of the CIF-SS football playoffs.

DIVISION 4

Top-seeded teams
1. Sierra Canyon of Chatsworth (10-0)
2. Lompoc (10-0)
3. Corona del Mar (9-1)
4. Downey (9-1)

O.C. teams in this division
Corona del Mar
Valencia (4-6)

Non-O.C. player to watch: Toa Taua, Lompoc, Jr., RB. Taua, who has offers from Hawaii and Washington State,  has rushed for 1,329 yards and is averaging 148 yards a game and 11 yards a carry

Analysis: So it looks like Sierra Canyon is not just good at basketball. The Trailblazers have a blazing offense. They have surpassed 50 points in four games. Downey’s only loss was to Hart of Newhall, which is 8-2. Corona del Mar has All-Orange County candidate Chase Garbers at quarterback. Having a great quarterback like Garbers is a huge advantage in high school football. Valencia is as hot as any team in O.C. The Tigers went 0-5 in nonleague games then went on to win a share of the championship in the Empire League. They beat Tustin in a league game. The most important activity in this division is which teams win the home-team coin flip if Corona del Mar plays Lompoc in the semifinals.

Champion: Corona del Mar
