COSTA MESA – Moby Contreras rushed for 304 yards and scored four touchdowns as Los Amigos won a battle of ground games with Costa Mesa, 36-16, on Thursday night at Estancia High.
The 5-foot-8, 180-pound Contreras constantly found gaping holes in the Mustangs defense while leading Los Amigos (2-1) to victory.
Los Amigos scored all five of its touchdowns on the ground and four of those scoring runs were 45 yards and over.
Costa Mesa (0-4) struck first as they put together a 12-play 80 yard drive that was capped when Cameron Curet scored a 16-yard run, giving the Mustangs an early lead.
The Lobos responded in a hurry, needing only four plays to get on the board when Contreras answered with a 45-yard score.
Los Amigos began the second half with the same torrid scoring pace as Contreras scored a 67-yard touchdown on the Lobos second play of the half.
The Mustangs cut into the Los Amigos lead 19-13 when Sam Swanson pounced on a fumble in the end zone after his handoff to Curet ended up falling forward in a bizarre play that was upheld by the officials.
But the Lobos would pull away using a 17-point fourth quarter to secure a victory.
