Edison boys track and field coach Derek Harrison turned down an offer to also become coach of the girls team, Edison athletic director Rich Boyce confirmed Wednesday.
Harrison has coached the boys team for nearly a decade. He accepted the girls job a few days ago but later changed his mind due to other commitnents, according to Boyce.
Former girls track and field coach Jeanne Formosa resigned last May.
Parents spoke at a Huntington Beach Union High School District board meeting on Tuesday night, voicing concerns over the naming of Harrison as girls coach.
Boyce said the search for a new girls coach is ongoing.
