Former El Toro and Fountain Valley coach Mike Milner and former NFL quarterback Billy Joe Hobert were added to the coaching staff at JSerra, Lions football coach Jim Hartigan said.

Milner will coach defensive backs while Hobert will serve as quarterbacks coach, Hartigan said. Milner recently had been an assistant at Mission Viejo. …

FOOTBALL: SANTA ANA HIRES TEGANTVOORT

Santa Ana hired Charlie TeGantvoort as its football coach. He repaces Carl Swanstrom who resigned in April.

TeGantvoort, an alumnus of Fountain Valley, was head coach last year at Douglass of Los Angeles. Douglass went 5-5-1. He has been an assistant coach at several schools, including Huntington Beach and Laguna Beach.

BOYS LACROSSE: EDISON’S PRIETO RESIGNS

Edison boys lacrosse coach Robert Prieto resigned for personal reasons, Athletic Director Rich Boyce said.

It was the Chargers’ first season with a boys lacrosse team, and Prieto guided Edison to a 7-8 record.

TRACK AND FIELD NOTES

Mater Dei’s Malik McMorris showed off his versatility at the CIF-SS Masters Meet on Friday at Cerritos College.

McMorris cleared the state-qualifying mark (57 feet, 9 inches) in the shot put when he recorded a 58-7 on his final throw of the day.

In the discus, McMorris threw for a state-leading 192-11. McMorris was the only boy in the Southern Section to move on to this week’s CIF State Meet in Clovis in both events. …

Tesoro sophomore Amanda Gehrich was the only county girl to qualify for the state meet in the 1,600. She finished third with a time of 4:46.53. …

El Modena’s Sydney Gidabuday finished strong down the stretch at Masters and claimed the 1,600 in 4:09.54. A week earlier at the CIF-SS Finals, he was passed on the final lap of the Division 3 1,600 by Brea Olinda’s Austin Tamagno.

“I felt a lot more comfortable this week,” Gidabuday said. “Last week, from the beginning, I felt really tight and I felt it was hard to move through the pack. I’m not sure if these guys gave their full effort (today), but I’m glad I qualified.” …

Mater Dei’s Emma Radan advanced to the CIF State meet in the 100 and 300 hurdles. Radan ranks fifth all-time in both events. …

Corona del Mar’s Matt Hurst ran the county’s best time this year in the boys 400 with a 47.79. Warner’s 21.51 in the 200 placed him fifth, and vaulted him into the state meet along with JSerra’s Dante Pettis (21.63). Pettis also qualified in boys long jump, with a best mark of 23-8. …

Mater Dei’s Curtis Godin trailed Alemany’s Dominic Davis for about 50 meters in the boys 100, but turned on his boosters in the last half of the race to claim the win in 10.55. Costa Mesa’s Quinton Bell ran 10.87 to finish fourth and give the county two representatives at state.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL: HODSON ON U.S. ROSTER

Corona del Mar’s Hayley Hodson was selected to the U.S. Women’s Junior National Team that will comepte in the NORCECA U-20 Continental Championships in Guatemala from July 6 to 14 .

Hodson was on the Girls Youth National Team that won silver at the FIVB Women’s U-18 Championships last year.

Mater Dei senior Elise Zappia, who is committed to UCLA, was selected to the USA Volleyball High Performance Youth Beach National Team U-19.
