Troy Roelen confirmed Saturday night that he has resigned as boys basketball coach at Mission Viejo because of a Saddleback Valley Unified School District policy that does not allow a coach to serve as the athletic director at the same time.
Roelen said he chose to remain the school’s athletic director. He coached the Diablos for 12 seasons.
He was the Register’s Orange County coach of the year for the 2011-12 season.
