DIVISION 2

2014 champion: Temecula Valley

Top four seeded teams: 1. San Clemente (22-7); 2. Foothill (22-8); 3. Glendora (22-7); 4. South Hills of Covina (19-7-1).

O.C. teams: Foothill (22-8); Mission Viejo (21-10); San Clemente (22-7); Trabuco Hills (18-12-1); Villa Park (19-8).

Analysis: Pay no attention to San Clemente’s final regular-season loss to San Juan Hills. That was a play-the-seniors, deemphasize-winning game for the deserving players who work hard every practice but play scant innings. The Tritons, even with ace pitcher Kolby Allard out all season and for the playoffs, too, are good enough to win this division. Foothill got to the finals in Division 1 last year, and might be better this year. Knights pitcher Sebastian Lopez is 10-0. Mission Viejo has a great pitcher, too, in Patrick Sandoval (7-3, 0.96 ERA, 83 strikeouts in 73 innings). Trabuco Hills has beaten plenty of good teams like Beckman, Long Beach Poly, Mission Viejo, El Toro and Tesoro and just might be a darkhorse to watch. Orange County just might have three teams in this division’s semifinals.
