JSerra’s girls soccer team lost its right to host a CIF-SS Division 1 quarterfinal against Los Alamitos on Friday due to a violation of CIF’s official ball regulation.

In the Lions’ opening-round win over Dana Hills last Thursday, they used a game ball other than a Spalding brand ball, which has three models of ball listed on CIF’s official ball list.

“We didn’t know there was a rule,” JSerra coach Greg Baker said in a text message. “Also didn’t know that Spalding made soccer balls.”

JSerra, the top seed in Division 1, will play at Los Alamitos on Friday at 5 p.m.
