CIF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA REGIONAL FINAL

DIVISION II

NO. 1 SERVITE (27-2-1) VS. NO. 6 SYLMAR (22-7-5)

Where, when: Yorba Linda High, Saturday, 4 p.m.

Outlook: Before this season, the Friars had never won a CIF-SS boys soccer title. Now, they have a chance to add a regionals title to the CIF-SS Division 1 banner they captured last weekend. It’s no surprise that disciplined defense has played a key role in Servite’s run of success. The Friars have given up four goals in seven playoff games. The source of the Friars’ goals in the regional tournament has been a bit unexpected. Garret Amador, one of the top five scorers in the county, does not have a goal in the regionals. Noah Ferrel, Michael Godinez, Tim Burke – players used as reserves this postseason – and Oscar Flores have provided the goals in Servite’s two regional triumphs. Sylmar has used a strong backline to make it to today’s championship match, having shut out its last two opponents – third-seeded Bellflower in the first round and second-seeded La Costa Canyon in the semifinals.
