THE REGISTER’S O.C. TOP 10

1. Servite: Things are looking extremely bright for the Friars. They return 12 of 14 from last year’s lineup. Big things are on the horizon.

2. Fountain Valley: The Barons have a strong foundation as they return a trio of state qualifiers – Andrew Morgan, Stone Escobedo and Ben Madrid.

3. Laguna Hills: The Hawks return a trio of CIF finalists (Dexter Viengvilay, Anthony Le and Philip Zamora). That’s a good starting block when you have to compete in the tough South Coast League.

4. Trabuco Hills: The Mustangs were a fixture in the county’s top 10 last year. They were a finalist in the CIF-SS Division 6 Duals and finished fourth as a team at CIF.

5. San Clemente: The Tritons have their sights set on big things this year. Mike Marshall, a state qualifier, leads the charge.

WRESTLING PREVIEW 2014-15

6. Yorba Linda: The Mustangs finished third in CIF and won their second consecutive CIF Dual title last year. It will be interesting to watch their move to the Century Conference.

7. Santa Ana: Returning CIF medalists Saul Bravo and Ricardo Navarette are the keys to the Saints’ season. Bravo was third at 113 at CIF and Navarette was fifth at 120.

8. El Dorado: CIF medalist Connor Duke leads the Golden Hawks into this season. Andrew Ramos is ranked third in the county at 220 pounds. Expect El Dorado to be in the mix in the tough Century Conference.

9. Villa Park: Scott Lawson takes over as coach after moving over from Canyon. The Spartans had a top-10 finish at CIF last year. Michael Ramos returns at 170.

10T. Irvine: The Vaqueros advanced to the semifinals of the CIF-SS Division 5 duals last year. This year’s team will be led by Zak Evans and Armon Fayazzi. Fayazzi placed fifth at CIF last year.

10T. El Modena: The Vanguards were one of the big stories last year. They won the league dual title, qualified all 14 wrestlers for CIF and won the program’s first CIF title since 2003.
