Calvary Chapel, Jr., 106
Rangel had a late start to the season after sitting out the 30-day transfer period. He quickly made it for lost time. Rangel placed second at the CIT Morro Bay, third at Temecula Valley Invitational and first at the San Clemente Rotary. After winning the Orange Coast League title, Rangel won the CIF Inland Division and placed third at Masters, qualifying for his second consecutive state tournament, where he went 3-2.
SCOTT HA
Woodbridge, Sr., 113
Ha opened the season winning the Cossarek Classic. He posted three second-place finishes (Edison Beach Bash, SoCal Challenge and Arroyo Classic). Ha was the Pacific Coast League champion. He placed third at CIF and ninth at Masters. Ha went 4-1 in the consolation bracket at Masters. At the state tournament, he went 1-2.
RUSSELL ROHLFING
Sonora, Jr., 120
What a different a year makes. Rohlfing placed fifth at CIF last year and didn’t survive the first day at Masters. This year, Rohlfing was a new wrestler. He was first at three tournaments, third at Five Counties and fourth at the El Dorado Invitational. Rohlfing added a Freeway League and CIF title. He place seventh at Masters and eighth at the state tournament.
NOAH BLAKELY
Servite, Jr., 126
Blakely was a key component for a Friars squad that was one of the best in the county. He won the Trinity League title and followed that with a CIF Southern Division title. He placed eighth at Masters. He went 0-2 at the state tournament. He also won the Cossarek Classic, placed third at the Mann Classic and went 5-2 at Five Counties.
PETER CUNNINGHAM
Calvary Chapel, Sr., 132
For the second consecutive season, Cunningham advanced to the CIF State Tournament. This is his second consecutive appearance on the All-County first team. Cunningham was first at the El Dorado Invitational, CIT Morro Bay, third at Temecula Valley Invitational and seventh at Doc Buchanan. He was the Orange Coast League champion and CIF champion. He placed fourth at Masters and went 2-2 at the state tournament.
LUKE TROY
Calvary Chapel, Fr., 138
Troy’s future is undeniably bright. His first year wasn’t bad either. Troy opened the season winning the El Dorado Invitational. He was first at the Mann Classic and CIT Morro Bay, second at Clovis West Shootout, seventh at Doc Buchanan and sixth at Temecula Valley Invitational. Troy was the Orange Coast League and CIF champion. He placed second at Masters and went 1-2 at state.
GINO ROMAN
El Dorado, Sr., 145
Roman is the perfect example of perseverance. He qualified for the state tournament as a sophomore and junior, but failed each time to finish in the top eight. This year he placed seventh at the state tournament. Roman won the Tournament of Champions at 160 pounds. He was first at the Kern County Invitational at 152. He won the Century League title and was third at CIF and Masters.
ANDREW MORGAN
Fountain Valley, Jr., 152
Morgan was first at three regular season tournaments and third at Five Counties. He proved to be the best in the Sunset League and placed first at CIF. He was fifth at Masters. At the state tournament, he advanced to the quarterfinals on the first day and eventually finished seventh.
AARON NEGRETTE
Calvary Chapel, Sr., 160
Negrette started the season at 170 pounds and won the Clovis West shootout and placed second at the Mann Classic. At 160, Negrette won the El Dorado Invitational, CIT Morro Bay and placed second at Doc Buchanan and Temecula Valley Invitational. After winning the Orange Coast League title, Negrette captured a CIF title and placed third at Masters. He placed fourth at the state tournament. This is Negrette’s second consecutive first team appearance.
MIKE MARSHALL
San Clemente, Jr., 170
Marshall was a consistent performer for the Tritons. He had a pair of first-place finishes, three second-place medals and a sixth at Five Counties. In the postseason, Marshall won the South Coast League title, placed second at CIF and fourth at Masters. He went 0-2 at the state tournament.
PHILLIP O’SHEA
Capistrano Valley, Sr., 195
O’Shea was one of more dominant wrestlers in the county. He finished first at the Mann Classic, Five Counties, Laguna Hills Invitational, South Coast League finals and in the CIF-SS Southern Division, where he won four matches by fall and another by technical fall. O’Shea was fourth at Masters and went 3-2 at the state tournament.
JEFF HOLSINGER
Santa Margarita, Sr., 220
Holsinger caught fire early this season, winning four titles and posting a second place finish at the Mann Classic. An injury kept him out of league finals and limited his practice time in February, but he was still able to capture a CIF title (winning five matches by fall) and a third-place finish at Masters. He went 3-2 at the state tournament.
ABE OCHOA
Yorba Linda, Jr., Hwt.
Ochoa entered February ranked fourth in the county at heavyweight. He closed the season with a flurry. Ochoa captured the Empire League and the CIF Coastal Division title. He pulled off some upsets at Masters on his way to a second-place finish, best among county heavyweights. Ochoa went 2-2 at the state tournament.
