Five Orange County boys basketball players were selected CIF-Southern Section players of the year.
The All-CIF teams were released Monday for the Southern Section’s 12 divisions. The awards and teams were selected by CIF-SS coaches.
Representing Orange County as CIF-SS players of the year: Stanley Johnson of Mater Dei, Open Division; Chandler Hutchison of Mission Viejo, 1AA; Anthony Ballestero of Canyon, Division 2AA; Devonte Klines of Santa Margarita, 3AA; and Johnnie Vassar of JSerra, 4AA. All five are seniors.
Johnson was a CIF-SS player of the year last season. He was All-CIF as a sophomore, too.
Mater Dei had the most All-CIF players, with three on the Open Division team: Johnson; junior Rex Pflueger; and sophomore MJ Cage.
Canyon’s Nick Anderson, who is on the 2AA team, is the third member of his family to be named All-CIF, following brothers Jerime and Chris.
