DIVISION 9

CAPISTRANO VALLEY CHRISTIAN (27-2) vs. SAN GABRIEL ACADEMY (25-4)

When: 9 a.m.

Outlook: Capistrano Valley Christian is the third seed in the division. CVC defeated second-seeded Upland Christian in five sets in the semifinals. CVC has lost only one best best-of-five match this season. Its other loss came in a tournament. Sophomore Keara Rutz leads CVC with 423 kills. She had 38 in the victory over Upland Christian. Junior Riley Barclay runs the office from the setter position. Junior Sonia Pluhar, freshman Dafne Pluhar and junior Jessica Wilson are also key components in attack for CVC. San Gabriel Academy is the fourth seed in the playoffs. The Eagles swept top-seeded Tarbut V’Torah in the semifinals.

DIVISION 8

KATELLA (21-5) vs. GRACE BRETHREN of SIMI VALLEY (20-5)

When: 4:30 p.m. (Streamed live on foxsports.com/west’s Prep Zone.)

Outlook: It has been a playoff run filled with firsts for Katella. The Knights made it out of the second round for the first time, then came a first-ever semifinals appearances and this is their first finals appearance. The Knights are on a 15-match winning streak. Coach Mary Starbuck has been impressed by her team’s hard work and chemistry on the court. Senior outside hitter Gabby Meza had 17 kills a victory over Providence of Burbank in the semifinals. Another player to watch is sophomore outside hitter Mylei Vargas-Deason. The Knights went undefeated in the Orange League and they’ve won each playoff match in four sets. The Lancers were the Tri-Valley League runner-up and earned the second overall seed in the division. The Lancers have lost just one set during the playoffs.
