CIF-SS BOYS SOCCER CHAMPIONSHIPS

DIVISION 1

EL TORO (16-10-2) vs. REDLANDS EAST VALLEY (27-0-1)

Where, when: Corona High, Friday, 7 p.m.

Outlook: El Toro coach Shawn Watts said that when the Chargers were on a six-game losing streak in December, he would not have believed they would get this far. They have been a different team since, winning nine of their past 11 games. Jonathan Bryant and Elijah Amadin have played key roles for the Chargers during their run to the championship game, each scoring game-winning goals. Bryant’s came in a 2-1 victory against Tesoro in the quarterfinals. Amadin knocked in the Chargers’ only goal in a 1-0 semifinal win against Paramount. El Toro beat top-seeded Cathedral in the second round and Paramount is ranked No. 9 in the state. But Redlands East Valley will probably be the Chargers’ toughest test. The Wildcats are ranked ninth in the nation by MaxPreps. To beat the Wildcats, the Chargers’ backline, led by Bryant, will have to find a way to stop Alec Hooper and Nicholas Perez, who have 15 and 10 goals respectively.
