COSTA MESA – Calvary Chapel cruised to its first win of the season Thursday, defeating Costa Mesa, 42-7, in an Orange Coast League game at Orange Coast College.

Jonathan Carnevale scored three touchdowns and rushed for 93 yards on seven carries for the Eagles (1-5, 1-0).

Calvary Chapel quarterback Robbie Haw threw for 139 yards on six completions with three touchdown passes.

Costa Mesa (0-6, 0-1) struck first. Roman Ayala blocked a Calvary Chapel punt and recovered the ball in the end zone for 7-0 lead.

The Eagles answered with a 48-yard touchdown run by Carnevale to tie the score.

Calvary Chapel found the endzone through the air in the second quarter. Haw threw a 36-yard pass to Payton Rogers to put the Eagles ahead for good, 13-7, in the second quarter.

Carnevale scored his second touchdown of the game late in the second quarter on a 14-yard pass from Haw. Haw found Carnevale again on the two-point conversion to extend the lead to 21-7.

Calvary Chapel kept the momentum going in the second half. On their first possession of the half, the Eagles capped a 52-yard scoring drive with a four-yard touchdown run by Carnevale.

On the ensuing drive, Noah Bustillos intercepted a Costa Mesa pass. Haw threw a 49-yard swing pass to Kaden Headington to put Calvary Chapel up 35-7.

Costa Mesa got its passing offense going in the second half. Quarterback Ben Swanson threw for 165 yards on just 11 completions. Tight end Jack Perez had 85 yards receiving on four receptions.
