COSTA MESA – Braeden Stack knew Calvary Chapel’s objective Thursday night was simple.

Win or go home.

With the Eagles backed firmly against the wall, Stack and Co. cut the tension almost immediately. The junior running back rushed for three touchdowns as Calvary Chapel charged past Costa Mesa, 40-0, at Estancia High in the Orange Coast League finale.

“We knew we had to come out here and get this win,” Stack said. “We put ourselves in a tough position, but we made this our playoff game. We came out here and told ourselves we would play for each other, so we did.”

With the victory, the Eagles earn their second straight trip to the CIF-SS Southern Division playoffs, locking up the league’s final postseason slot.

Stack ran for 109 yards on 16 carries, and quarterback Patrick Glasgow passed for 252 yards to power Calvary Chapel. Glasgow, a junior, connected with Joey Cox six times for 99 yards and two touchdowns.

The Eagles took their opening possession 75 yards, capping the drive on the seventh play with Stack’s 3-yard scoring run to take a 7-0 lead with 10:07 remaining in the first.

Calvary Chapel added three more scores in the second quarter, highlighted by Josh Debernarde’s 2-yard TD run and Cox’s 19-yard TD catch with 6:14 left in the half to help build a 26-0 halftime lead against the Mustangs (2-8, 2-3).
