SANTA ANA – Playing for the first time in its new stadium in what the announcer called a historic event, Century ran up and down its artificial turf, routing Bolsa Grande, 31-8, in a nonleague game Friday night.

Jimmy Gutierrez rushed for 133 yards and three touchdowns on 16 carries and also added one touchdown reception, while defenders for Bolsa Grande struggled to stop Century’s double-wing offense.

“This is our first game here at our school, and we had a lot of fans,” Gutierrez said about what fired the team up tonight.

Centurions quarterback Adrian Martinez completed 3 of 3 passes for 94 yards and a TD, while the offense tallied 410 total yards.

Bolsa Grande (0-3) gained 110 yards of total offense on the night while Cristian Najera scored its lone touchdown late in the fourth quarter.

But the Matadors could not stop Century (2-1) and its core of runners.

Looking to add to its lead before the end of the half, Centurions running back Gutierrez caught an 18-yard touchdown pass from Martinez and streaked down the field. The touchdown increased the lead to 19-0 after the extra point missed the uprights.

It only took Century two plays to reach the end zone on Gutierrez’s 36-yard touchdown run.
